This unusually experimental piece evolved over its creation. It started off as a self-portrait with a pop art element over a geometric background but I recently reworked it using someone else's face (a random internet lady who was in a similar pose).
I wanted to explore perspective and storytelling. The metallic lines in the background represent a grounding scene. The rays have an unintentional halo effect that I picked up in the hair. She shimmers from different angles. The revamped version also has fluorescent paint which gives a glowing effect.
I have been painting a lot of birds lately and it felt weird not including one so I've included my sister's mean cockatiel, Bobby perched charmingly on her shoulder as she paints.
It's a fun and modern piece that suits a modern room. The painting wraps around the edges so it doesn't need to be framed.
Please be advised colours may appear differently on different devices.
This is an original mixed media painting (charcoal, acrylic, Posca marker), 51cm x 61cm x 3.8cm, unframed with black edges & ready to hang.
