Artists and animals. This painting is the second in my series depicting artists and animal symbolism. The surreal expressionist animals enhance an emotional element of each painting or are significant to the artist in some way.
The woman in the painting is an Italian artist and model, Emilia Zabberoni who has given me permission to express her likeness as a painting. I chose her as the subject as I was drawn to a particular photograph of her on her social media with some stunning colours and light taken by portrait photographer, Simona Buccolier (permission given). The photograph depicts her crouching, naked in a shower with a look of pain on her face. I changed the colours from green to purple and removed the water reference as she is crouched and drenched in the original photo. The addition of tarantulas crawling over her head and body enhance the nightmarish feel of this piece.
She is a stand-out statement piece that will look amazing against a light or dark wall. It has a much darker energy to the majority of my work. It could suit a variety of locations inside a home. The mica on her lips and the metallic gold paint on her skin shimmer depending on the viewing angle.
Please be advised colours may appear differently on different devices.
This is an original acrylic painting (acrylic paint), 92cm x 122cm x 3.8cm, framed in natural Tasmanian Oak (94cm x 124cm x 5cm framed dimensions) & ready to hang.
