A portrait of one of the most recognisable faces in comedy, capturing the warmth, energy and expressiveness that made Robin Williams such a compelling performer.
Rather than illustrating a particular character or film, this painting focuses on Williams himself. Expressive colour, loose marks and layered details surround the portrait, reflecting some of the restless energy and spontaneity associated with his performances.
There is humour in the work, but also something quieter beneath it. Williams could move remarkably easily between comedy and vulnerability, and I wanted the portrait to leave room for both.
At 90 × 90 cm and framed in black Tasmanian oak, the work has a strong presence without losing the humanity of its subject.
