Raw, layered and deliberately chaotic, In Bloom is my portrait of Kurt Cobain: an artwork shaped by the tension between vulnerability, rebellion and the cultural mythology that continues to surround him.
Loose marks, fragmented imagery and expressive colour build around Cobain’s portrait, giving the work an energy that feels unsettled rather than polished. The title references Nirvana’s In Bloom, while also creating a subtle connection to the floral and figurative language that later developed through my Blooming Veil series.
At 90 × 90 cm and finished in a black Tasmanian oak floating frame, In Bloom has a strong physical presence. It’s a bold piece for a collector drawn to music, portraiture and artwork with a little edge.
