I See You

She knows you're looking.

Her back is turned, but her gaze meets yours. Around her, a cascade of peacock feathers becomes part gown, part plumage, rich with emerald, turquoise and flashes of gold.

I See You plays with the strange exchange that happens between a figure and the person observing her. At first, she appears to be the subject. Look a little longer and the balance shifts. She isn't unaware of your attention. She's watching you too.

The peacock-inspired detailing heightens that tension. Traditionally associated with beauty, confidence and display, its feathers are also filled with eye-like markings. Here they become both adornment and armour. She can be seen without surrendering control of the gaze.

Created primarily in acrylic with texture paste and expressive mixed-media detailing, the surface rewards closer viewing. Raised texture, loose marks and metallic-looking accents give the feathered skirt movement and dimension, while the restrained background keeps attention firmly on the figure.

At 62 × 122 cm, the tall, narrow format gives I See You presence without demanding an enormous wall. She works particularly well in spaces that are often difficult to fill with conventional landscape-format art: beside a dining setting, between architectural features, in an entry, at the end of a hallway, or on a narrow feature wall.
