Shazza the Rainbow Lorikeet (Reproduction Print)

"Shazza" is the third of a series of seven Australian birds from my "Flummoxed Flock" series. This piece was drawn with permission from a reference photo of a rainbow lorikeet by Roger MacKertich (www.instagram.com/rogermacks.bird.photos).

The rainbow lorikeet (Trichoglossus moluccanus) is a parrot species found in Australia. It is common along the eastern seaboard, from northern Queensland to South Australia. Its habitat is rainforest, coastal bush and woodland areas. Several taxa traditionally listed as subspecies of the rainbow lorikeet are now treated as separate species, six species have now been identified.

Rainbow lorikeets often travel together in pairs and occasionally respond to calls to fly as a flock, then disperse again into pairs. Rainbow lorikeet pairs defend their feeding and nesting areas aggressively against other rainbow lorikeets and other bird species. They chase off smaller birds such as the noisy miner and the little wattlebird, and larger birds such as the Australian magpie.

The bird is the focus of this large painting and depicts him looking over his shoulder at the viewer. There are so many colours in this piece and due to its striking size, deserves prime attention, however as you can see from the insitu scenes, it could suit a lounge, living room or bedroom. Wherever it resides, it will draw attention and conversation.

The original piece has more contrast and it was photographed without varnish and in not ideal lighting situations. It is also signed before this image. Please be advised colours may also differ depending on the device you are viewing this from.
