A quiet delivery, a new chapter - what dropping off Elvis taught me about letting go.

Dropping Off Elvis
5 November 2025
When I dropped off the artist proof of Elvis the Gang-gang Cockatoo, there wasn’t much ceremony. No gallery lights, no big reaction - just a quiet doorstep, a rolled print, and the soft thunk of the tube as it landed.
It felt like a small ending and a small beginning all at once.
This was the first piece in my new embellished print range - a test of how texture, foil, and hand-finishing could bring something extra to a reproduction. After months of experimenting with materials, I’d finally settled on a process that felt true to my original work.
But the delivery itself was uneventful. The winner didn’t answer the door, and there was no photo moment or fanfare. Just me, the print, and the feeling of letting something go.
On the drive home, I realised that’s often what the creative process is - small, quiet milestones that happen when nobody’s watching. Each piece takes on a life of its own, and once it leaves the studio, its story becomes tangled with someone else’s. You never really know where it ends up, and that’s part of the beauty of it. Art keeps becoming something new - finding fresh walls, fresh eyes, and fresh meaning.
Now, the first pre-orders for my embellished bird prints are in production, and it’s nice to think Elvis will soon have a few siblings - each one with its own shimmer and story.
By the time this post is live, pre-orders for the first print run will have closed, but I’ll reopen orders ahead of Valentine’s Day 2026. If you’d like to be notified when the next release opens, you can subscribe here:
